Kiwi teenager Lorde has continued her meteoric rise to ‘famedom’ by taking out Best International Female Solo Artist at the Brit Awards.
The 17 year old pipped international superstars Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Pink to the prized top spot.
"I'm still so new to getting awards that my brain feels like it's exploding every time it happens, so forgive me," the Kiwi songstress told the crowd.
"Thank you to the strong, intelligent, inspiring women in this category. This really was a priceless surprise," Lorde said in her acceptance speech.
The ‘priceless surprise’ line is said to be Lorde’s way of getting a dig at the PR company who wrote to journalists that wished to attend the gala evening saying they would supply tickets on the condition that the journalists tweeted #pricelesssurprises ( Mastercard’s twitter promotion phrase) in return. The PR company who work for Mastercard – the major sponsor of the Brit Awards this year, has landed itself a bucket of poo pooing from journos who are aghast at the very idea that a PR company could tell them what they should write.
Lorde performed her Grammy-winning hit 'Royals' with English electronic duo Disclosure at the ceremony in London and was photographed and videoed partying with Katy Perry and other stars at the ‘afterparty’ party later that night.
It has also been reported that Lorde is concerned that she is being over exposed on radio. She reportedly said "I want to let people stop hearing Lorde on the radio all the time, because it's kind of crazy at the moment. I'd like to give people a little bit of breathing room before I unleash something different."
