May is New Zealand Music Month and your local New Zealand owned and operated station Gold FM is highlighting the talented musicians who live in our district.
Shona Laing has written some of NZ's most memorable songs since coming to the attention of the General Manager of the Philips Music Group, John McCready. So impressed was he with the audition 16 year old Shona did for Chris Bourne, the producer of TV talent show New Faces in 1972 he had already signed her to a record deal before the country saw her on screen.
The rest is history and it's an amazing one which saw Shona inducted into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame last year.
Click play to hear Brian Gentil talking to Shona about her career and treat yourself to a live performance of Shona's latest song which was written to commemorate the opening of the Waikino Memorial Bridge.
Shona released a 5 CD album of original classics which is available now.
