Waihi Scouts Encourage Mud Slinging

There will be some dirty business going on just out of Waihi this weekend.

Waihi Scouts have come up with a creative way to fundraise and it involves wallowing in the mud!

A farm on State Highway 2 - 1 km south of the Waihi Beach turnoff, becomes ‘mud central’ for just one day a year and there’s a challenge suitable for all ages to enjoy.

Those with the need for speed can tackle the big slide into a water hole and younger or less adventurous types can forego the waterhole for a slippery slide down a hillside.

An obstacle course will have mud larks going over, under and through a series of tests on their way to a jump into a stream from a rope bridge.

Challengers and spectators won't have to go hungry or thirsty as the scouts will be on hand with sausages and drinks, while a fire will warm up intrepid sliders between challenges and tempt those who would like to have a go to cook their own MasterChef sausage.

Old shoes, old clothes, sun block and warm clothes for afterwards are a must for mud sliders.

A washing area and changing tent will be on site for a quick cleanup before getting into cars.

Click play and allow the audio a few moments to open to hear Scout Leader Paul Boggiss dishing the dirt about the mighty mud mania.
