Waihi Community Forum To Hold Workshops

workshop 600 x 369

Bhavesh Ranchood from the Waihi Community Forum called in to explain that the forum is currently reviewing the Independent Review Panel's (IRP) Property Purchase Guidelines. If you apply for a purchase the IRP will refer to these guidelines when making recommendations. The new guidelines will take into account consent condition 61 b) ii) which states that 'priority is given to those living in proximity to mining operations.'

Before the guidelines can be finalised the forum will be seeking your views on what else you think the IRP needs to consider before making future recommendations to NWG. They're also interested to hear how and when you think the $4 million budget for the purchase of properties not over stopes should be spent during the lifetime of the Correnso Underground Mine, or until consent expires (12 years).

The Forum would also like to consult with the community on how the 2014 Streets Ahead allocation will be spent.

Two workshops will be held, the first one on Wednesday 21st May at 5:30pm and the next one on Saturday, 24th May at 4:00pm. You will only need to attend one workshop and numbers for each workshop will be limited to 10 people. More workshops will be run if there is more interest.

A copy of the draft guidelines will be sent out to interested parties before the workshops take place.

To register your interest in attending a workshop – go to www.waihicommunityforum.co.nz or email wcfinformation@gmail.com

You can also write to WCF Coordinator, PO Box 54, Katikati 3166.
