A weed spraying truck that veered off the road on Waitewhata Road yesterday spilled about 2,000 litres of pre mixed Round Up herbicide into the Taiari Stream.
Apparently the driver of the vehicle was blinded by the sun and lost control of the truck, suffering minor injuries.
Waikato Regional Council is investigating the potential impacts and warned people to be very cautious if using water from the Taiari Stream and Ohinemuri River.
Health authorities were advised of the chemical spill and the Hauraki District Council confirmed that public water supplies were not threatened.
