Targa North Island is one of two multi-day tarmac rally events being organised to celebrate the 20th anniversary of New Zealand's first Targa event.
The three-day event started just south of Auckland today with overnight stop-offs in Whitianga and Rotorua. Over the three days competitors will cover 457.8kms of closed special stages and 830.3kms of transport stages.
Over 80 entries have been received for this new event which sees cars grouped into three main classes.
The cars will be winding their way to Waihi tomorrow which means the Whiritoa to Waihi road will be Closed Temporarily.
Time of Closure: 7:45am to 11:00am

SH 25 (Waihi / Whangamata Road) starting from its intersection with Whiritoa Beach Road, to its intersection with Golden Valley Road.
GOLDEN VALLEY Road, from its intersection with SH 25 (Waihi / Whangamata Road), to its intersection with Trig Road.
Includes intersections with: Landlyst Road, Ngatitangata Rd, No Exit, Kalma Rd No Exit.
TRIG Road, from its intersection with Golden Valley Road, to finish at its intersection
(North of) Waihi Beach Road.
Includes intersections with: Heard Rd, No Exit.
Note: To assist with the stage security, the closure is also to include 50 metres of EACH adjoining road, from where it intersects within this road closure.
