A dog, thought to be a German wire haired pointer, and its owner are being sought by the Thames Coromandel District Council (TCDC) after two attacks in Whangamata.
A teenage girl who was lunged at by the dog as she was jogging last Monday required stitches on her upper leg. A woman had the dog on a lead at the time but the dog still managed to attack the 14 year old and the woman walking the dog left the scene.
The next day a dog fitting the same description as the dog that attacked the teenager mauled and killed another dog in front of its horrified 13 year old owner.
TCDC staff are continuing to hunt for the dangerous dog and its owner as they believe the dog needs to be dealt with. They are appealing for the public to help to identify the woman who has been walking the dog and for the woman to come forward.
Anyone with information is urged to phone 07 868 0200.
The dog pictured is described as similar to dog responsible for the attacks.
