Serious Assault At Whangamata

Waikato Police are investigating a serious assault that took place at a Whangamatä address overnight.

Detective Senior Sergeant Graham Pitkethley of Waikato CIB said Police went to an Achilles Ave address following notification of the assault by ambulance staff at about 1.30am this morning.

A 47 year old local male was flown to Waikato Hospital with serious injuries to his head after he was attended to by ambulance staff. He is currently in a stable condition.

A scene guard is in place and a scene examination is taking place at a Whangamatä address today.

Mr Pitkethley said detectives want to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in or around Achilles Ave between 11pm and 2am.

"We have spoken to several members of the public already and are very grateful for their assistance. We are also seeking to locate and speak to a flatmate believed to be present at the address at the time of the assault.

"Anyone else who may have information who hasn't already spoken to investigators is asked to ring the Whangamata Police Station on 07 865 0300. Or alternatively information can be left anonymously with Crime stoppers on 0800 555111."
