A new footpath will provide much safer access to the Wharekaho boat ramp for the Onemana community.
The new 1km-long safety footpath was approved by Whangamata Community Board in February.
The path will extend 500m either side of the boat ramp and will also allow cyclists and walkers to gain access to the harbour safely. Until now, everyone had to walk on the road, but the board felt the number of people had now reached the point where safety had become an issue.
Construction is set to begin just after Easter.
