As their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a seven-month-old baby in Whitianga continues, Waikato Police say they and Victim Support are working to give the family all the support they need.
The officer in charge of Whitianga Police, Sergeant Andrew Morrison, said the family of seven-month-old Auckland boy, Carlo Domett CAESAR, are understandably distraught by what happened on Saturday.
The little boy fell into the water from the Whitianga Marina while his family were holidaying in the area.
"As our investigations continue, New Zealand Police wish to express our condolences to Carlo's family in what are very tragic circumstances.
"Speaking to the family today they are very upset and ask that their privacy be respected as they work their way through this ordeal. Victim Support are working closely with the family to assist them at this time."
Mr Morrison said as is the case with all situations of this nature, the death has been reported to the Coroner.
