The Waihi Senior A rugby team ran up a cricket score against an injury depleted Ngatea side on Saturday, running out big winners 91-3.

Scoring 15 tries, many of them being excellent team tries from counter attacks starting from inside their own 22 metre line.

To Waihi's credit, they didn't lose their structure and kept up the pressure for the full 80 minutes. With numerous players featuring on the score sheet , the ones to benefit the most were Brett Ranga and Mark Richardson scoring 3 tries each, with Jacob Seymour and Cam Irvine grabbing 2 apiece. Mark finished with a personal tally of 27 points.

Coach Brad Freeman grabbed the opportunity to try players in different positions citing some tough matches coming up in the next few weeks.

Regan McCowatt made the most of his starting spot of the season taking the 'Forward' player of the day and Jethro Meares taking out 'Back' of the day, with a solid all round performance.

In the earlier game ,Waihi Senior B's side came up against a very good Coromandel side. Both sides were coming off good victories the previous week and the closeness of the score at 24-22 to Coromandel, showed how close the sides were.

Both sides traded tries throughout the match with Coromandel always just clinging onto a slender lead. Waihi dominated the last quarter of the match, but just couldn't quite finish off the scoring opportunities they created. Waihi had a chance to snatch victory with the last kick of the game, but sadly the last penalty kick was unsuccessful. Overall this was a good game between 2 even sides.

There is no rugby over the Easter break. Both competitions start up again the following Saturday with the A's travelling to Thames, who are unbeaten this year and the B's away to Hauraki North. Special thanks to the Gerald & the Commercial Hotel for their sponsorship on game day.
