After a very quiet week for the Waihi Fire & Rescue Service, Chief Fire Officer Moe Stevens and guests at his youngest daughter's marriage celebrations received call out interruptions at the Waihi Fire Station where the wedding was taking place last Friday.
The first call came in at 2.30 and the wedding was timed for 3 pm. Luckily the call was to a false fire alarm and it was back to the wedding for the father of the bride.
Just as the meal was being served another call out took some of the firemen out to a car crash at Kauri point. A man died in the accident and the Katikati service looked after the incident and the Waihi boys were turned back to their station.
Another call out occurred just after 8 pm when a car failed to take a corner on the Franklin Road, Old Tauranga Road crossroads. A young male driver was lucky to escape serious injury. He was cut from his vehicle and taken to Tauranga Hospital in the ambulance with a broken ankle.
