Coromandel MP Scott Simpson called in for a chat.
The Coromandel electorate has a very large boundary and Scott explained the areas he represents.
With his first term just about behind him he said it's a privilege and an honour to be the MP for the Coromandel and sometimes it's the little things that give him a lot of pleasure. Being able to pick up the phone and have a word in the right ear to help out one of his constituents is something he gets a big kick out of. "A simple phone call or an intervention from a local MP can often work wonders," he said.
He has been chairing the Justice and Electoral Select Committee and been involved with some 'nitty gritty policy work'. At the moment he is working on cyber bullying legislation. He said New Zealand will become the first country in the world to legislate to provide a way out of cyber bullying for young people who are very badly treated on the internet. "I'm really proud of that sort of work," he said.
When asked about the low points he said it is not enough hours in the day. "My objective is to make every day count". Advocacy for the elderly is a bread and butter part of his job which he loves.
With the country back in surplus Scott Simpson said he thinks Bill English and John Key have been very prudent managers of the New Zealand economy. He's optimistic about the outcome of the upcoming General Election.
Scott is always available and keen to hear from Coromandel people. He can be contacted through his Thames Electoral Office.
The phone number is 07 868 3529 and emailing email@example.com will reach Mr Simpson as well.
