New Zealand born coach of the Welsh rugby team Warren Gatland suffered serious injuries to both of his heels when he fell from a ladder at his Waihi Beach home on Easter Monday. Apparently his feet took the full force of the fall.

It's been reported that the 48 year old suffered multiple fractures to his right heel and a fracture in his left heel after he fell three metres on to concrete when he was cleaning windows at his beach house.

He is expected to make a full recovery, but it could take as long as three months for the coach to recover from his injuries as reconstructive surgery will be required.

Gatland, who was to be taking charge of the Lions for their tour of Australia this year, should still be able to lead the Lions because he's expected to be back on his feet by then.

The Welsh Rugby Union has put plans in place for some of the coaching duties to be managed by Gatland's assistants.

The assistant coach Rob Howley will take over management of the staff in Wales, while Gatland will continue to be kept up to date by Howley.

Rob Howley will most likely manage the team for the Wales versus Wallabies three test series coming up if Warren Gatland is not fully recovered by the time the test series takes place.
