Last Friday night the Thames Valley Basketball Secondary School Basketball Championships were played at the Waihi Events Centre.

The first game up was the Junior Girls game – Waihi College vs Paeroa College. The Waihi girls played really well and beat Paeroa with an outstanding 97 – 20 win! Tyler Davison, the captain of the girls team, was also the Most Valuable Player (MVP) from the girls games.

The Junior Boys – Waihi College vs Mercury Bay School were next up. Their supporters say they knew this was going to be a nail-biting game but they didn’t realise how much. The Waihi College boys had the determination and a positive mindset that they were going to win the Thames Valley Basketball Secondary Schools Champs for 2012.

The score stayed close throughout the game – usually with only two to four points in it.

The final score was 33 – 31 to Waihi. Dylan Horne scored the vital last two points from a free throw that took Waihi to the win. The MVP for the boys game was Andrew Keenan, also from the Waihi Boys team.

Congratulations to the Waihi College Boys and Girls Junior Basketball teams!
