Even though Waihi Beach is open to the public authorities are asking people to stay away from containers and other debris that has washed ashore for safety reasons.
There were reports that up to 300 containers had washed off the Rena during this latest incident but that number has now been revised to about 150.
Boaties are still being warned to stay out of the area because of the hazard of submerged material.
There have been reports of polystyrene, an oil drum and more containers coming ashore this afternoon and the sea is littered with containers and debris for miles.
The Rena is completely split in two with a lot of movement in the stern now and salvors are waiting to see what happens before they try to resume removing the containers.
