The Thames Coromandel District Council is reviewing its district plan and says this is an important opportunity for the community to provide input into the development of the district.
The council is proposing to streamline their Operative District Plan because of the many changes including National Legislation that have occurred since the plan was last reviewed in 1998.
They say the changes will reduce levels of beaurocracy and make it easier for council to work with landowners in protecting what really is special rather than putting blanket controls over areas unnecessarily.
A District Plan Review Committee consisting of Deputy Mayor Peter French, Councillor Wyn Hoadley and Community Board Chairperson Alison Henry had a number of direction setting meetings last year, and the 'draft' reviewed plan will be available for comment about mid-way through the year. David Taipari, Morrie Dunwoodie and Ian Munro have also assisted the appointed council representatives as external advisors.
A series of workshops and community meetings will be held so that peoples' views and concerns can be taken into account and then a Proposed District Plan will be notified for submissions.
More information is available on the Thames Coromandel District Council website.
