Newmont Waihi Gold has lodged their resource consent application for the Correnso mining proposal with the Hauraki District Council. The process is not a simple one and the Council now needs to have a good look at the application and if it's satisfied it will publicly notify it. If the Council has further questions or feels the application is incomplete in some way it can request that Newmont supplies further information which can delay the public notification.
Because this application has the potential to be quite technical the Council will use experts to help them with the processing of the resource consent application and independent commissioners will be appointed for any hearings.
Brian Gentil spoke with Newmont's External Affairs Manager Sefton Darby on the Gold FM Breakfast Show this morning and here's what he had to say.
