Traffic is now starting to clear and traffic flow has started to resume as usual after an accident at Whakamarama around 8.00am caused significant delays for both north bound and south bound traffic.
The crash involved a school bus and utility vehicle at the State Highway 2 and Barrett Road intersection, with only the bus driver suffering minor injuries. A detour was put in place by police for north bound traffic (heading towards Katikati) along Old Highway Road and Youngson Road; while south (Tauranga) bound traffic were diverted around the accident site causing delays.
NZTA’s Bay of Plenty state highways manager, Brett Gliddon says “The accident site has since been cleared and the detour for north bound traffic has been removed and traffic flow has started to resume as normalâ€.
