Police have confirmed that the man who was found dead in the Paeroa CBD yesterday morning was well known local businessman Jordan Voudouris. Mr Voudouris was found in a pool of blood on Hall Street behind his business Mykonos Takeaways by a neighbouring shop keeper.
Police sealed off the street for most of the day while they conducted their investigations and Mr Voudouris' body was taken to Auckland for an autopsy late yesterday afternoon.
It's not known whether incidents involving armed intruders that happened in Waihi and Katikati are connected to the death, but it's not believed the attempted break ins at the Professionals Real Estate and Betta Electrical on Rosemont Road Waihi yesterday morning are linked to Mr Voudouris' death.
A safe was stolen from the Professionals and recovered by the Police in a stream near Connell Street, where a known offender lives. Police investigations are continuing into the break ins on Rosemont Road.
At this stage it can't be confirmed whether Mr Voudouris died as a result of an assault.
The people of Paeroa are shocked to the core about the death of the well liked and generous man dubbed 'the Pizza Man'. Flowers and tributes have been piling up outside Mykonos Takeaways, and his family is thankful for the support they've been receiving from the community.
