Newmont Waihi Gold's update this week includes information about the 'update' happening at their education centre on Moresby Avenue.
They clarify statements made in newspaper media that suggested they would be mining under the west end of the Marth Pit, and reassure Waihi residents that this is not going to happen.
Recent articles have also implied that they will be mining in the open pit 24 hours a day 7 days a week and Newmont explains that the working hours in the open pit for surface activity have not been amended. It will still be necessary for them to comply with existing noise limits of 40 decibels.
Some interesting archaeological work has been happening on Union Hill as well.
Kit Wilson and Phil Salmon from Newmont came into the Gold FM studio this morning and you can listen to their interview with Brian Gentil below.
