Eastern Waikato Police are seeking the public's help in locating the man responsible for causing serious facial injuries to a liquor store worker during a theft from a Morrinsville bottle store.
Detective Constable Laurie McMaster of the Matamata-Piako CIB said the incident happened at the Nottingham Castle Bottle Store on Studholme St Morrinsville about 6.35pm on Monday 6th August.
"At this time a 55-year-old male shop worker was by himself working in the store when a man entered and grabbed two bottles of liquor and attempted to leave without paying for them.
"When the shop worker attempted to stop him the offender smashed one of the bottles into the victims face causing significant facial injuries before fleeing the area in a dark coloured 4x4 vehicle described as being similar to a Rav 4 with a registration number similar to UU8686."
Ms McMaster said such was the nature of the injuries suffered by the victim that he will require ongoing hospital treatment.
Anyone who recognises the attacker from the images or who has any information on the identity of the attacker or location of the vehicle is asked to contact Morrinsville Police on (07) 8895071. Alternatively information can be left anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
