Lovers of culture have a real treat in store this Labour Weekend. The annual Art Waikino Art Exhibition is back this year and there's no shortage of outstanding art to adorn the walls.

Those attending the Wine and Cheese evening on Friday night will also be presented with a special performance by Shona Laing, one of New Zealand's most enduring singer song writers. Well known local singer/ musician Wella Tasma will also be performing at the Friday 'Meet the Judges' evening.

On Sunday, those lucky enough to be there will hear two masters of Chinese traditional instruments performing. The musicians are travelling to New Zealand from Taiwan and are part of the Tainan Traditional Orchestra. They will be demonstrating the 'Erhu' which is an ancient string instrument with an unique sound.

The International Academy on Landlyst Road, in the Golden Valley are bringing the musicians to New Zealand. They are keen for people to see something of their Taiwanese culture and took the opportunity to take part in the GoldFest celebrations by sponsoring a performance of the talented Tainan Orchestra musicians at ArtWaikino.

Go Waihi Corodinator Brian Gentil said he was talking to some of the staff at the International Academy and when they heard about GoldFest they wanted to contribute to the festivities.

The Tainan Traditional Orchestra artists will be performing from 11 am, this Sunday at the historic Victoria Hall at Waikino. The art and music will fill the hall.

Here's a taste of this glorious instrument. Photo and video do not depict the artists performing at ArtWaikino this weekend
