The Hearing for the Newmont Waihi Gold Golden Link Correnso Project is continuing this week.

The Waihi Memorial Hall has been booked for approximately three weeks to allow for all of the submitters who wish to be heard to have their say.

This process is not as formal as the recent Martha Expansion Project hearing which was conducted via the Environment Court due to the Martha license coming under a different process. That appeal was rejected in favour of Newmont Waihi Gold being given the go-ahead to commence underground exploration beneath the Martha open pit; with conditions.

Last week Newmont presented their case to the three independent commissioners the Hauraki District Council appointed to hear the Resource Consent application.

Today submitters in support of Newmont’s application were heard with more to come.

Tomorrow the submitters opposing the application will begin presenting their verbal submissions.
