Daylight Robbery Again!

Daylight robbery is alive and well again in Waihi. A house near Morgan Park has been targeted for the second time in less than a year and even though the property is fully alarmed the thieves didn’t think twice about taking what they wanted when they smashed their way through French doors.

The robbery occurred at about 1 pm last Wednesday, the 29th of August, and the thieves took some of the same types of items they made off with last year. An Xbox 360, Playstation 3, games, controllers and a Marshall Amp were gone by the time the residents living in the house got home 5 minutes after the alarm was activated at the property.

Anyone who knows anything about this burglary is urged to get in touch with the Police as soon as possible. They can phone 0800 555 111 anonymously.

The owners of the stolen goods are devastated that the same sort of property taken last time their home was burgled has been taken again. “There is obviously someone out there who is happy to receive stolen goods,” they said. “The ones buying or receiving the stolen property are just as bad as the thieves and need to be ‘outed”.

“It’s a timely reminder if you’ve been burgled in the last twelve months that these low life thieves may be starting to revisit properties they’ve robbed before,” they added.

“It’s not a matter of the insurance covering the stolen items,” the owners said.” It’s the fact that these people don’t care about the stress and insecurity they leave behind when they invade homes, and it is an invasion,” they said.

The residents also believe that their home was watched and that the thieves knew they were all away from the property when they smashed their way into the house. There is always usually someone home during the day but on this rare occasion the family were all at work. “It feels like someone close by or who knew us and our movements did this,” they said.

“We also live in a small community and bits of information are filtering through. For instance we’ve been told that the people who commit these sorts of crimes think that because property is insured it’s ok to steal it because the owners will receive insurance. The goods may be able to be replaced, but our peace of mind in our home can’t be”

So far the items stolen have been identified as an Xbox 360 Kinect, a Sony Playstation 3, games and controllers for the consoles and a Marshall Amp like the one pictured.

Anyone who has any information about the robbery is urged to pass on information to the Police. They can do so anonymously by calling 0800 555 111, or they can contact the owners directly on 07 863 9644 and claim a reward being offered for the return of the stolen goods.
