Emergency services were called to a Cook Street address in Whitianga over the weekend to attend to a man who was seriously assaulted.
Detective Sergeant Martyn Hughes of the Thames Coromandel CIB said "It appears a group have been drinking at the address when a dispute began and one man is alleged to have king hit our victim as he was involved in a dispute with a third man. "The victim has fallen to the ground and it appears one of his attackers has then punched and stomped his face causing the victim to suffer a broken jaw and bleeding to the brain."
Mr Hughes said Whitianga staff had received good support from the local community during their inquiries and earlier today two men aged 24 and 40 years old were located and charged with assault. "One of the pair will appear in the Hamilton District Court on assault charges today while the other will appear tomorrow and further, more serious charges, are likely."
