51 Year Old Female Motorcyclist Dies In Fiery Crash

Police are investigating a serious crash which occurred just after 3pm yesterday on the Kopu-Hikuwai Road (SH25A), Puriri, Thames.

Traffic diversions were in place until the site of the accident could be cleared.

A 51 year old female motorcyclist was killed when she apparently crossed the centre line of the road and collided with a car. Both vehicles burst into flames and although the occupants of the car were able to remove themselves and the injured woman away from the flames, her injuries were fatal.

The two people in the car were shaken but not seriously injured.

The woman was riding her bike on a learner's license and accompanying her partner, who was also on a bike, to Tairua. Her partner was ahead of her at the time of the accident and returned to find the tragic scene when he noticed she was not behind him.

Police are urging bikers who ride the 'Coro-Loop' to make sure that the experienced riders stay behind the novice riders to monitor them. They're also appealing for any witnesses to the accident to contact the Thames Police.
